A Q&A with our Annual Members’ Forum 2018 Sponsor: Uprise

June 15, 2018

What is Uprise?

Uprise is a technology platform that trains employees to be happier and less stressed. Rather than traditional EAP, which reacts once an employee is in crisis, Uprise is proactive and identifies and supports employees before they reach crisis point.

What is Stepped Care?

Stepped Care is a a multimodal support framework that matches employees with the appropriate level of care based on their needs. It's a recent, evidence-based approach to prevent people from developing mental health issues and it's the basis of how the Uprise software works.

Why do you believe it is important for employers to focus on their employee’s wellness?

It's only important for an employee to focus on wellness if they are convinced by the evidence that improving wellness will improve business outcomes or if they believe that it's the morally correct thing to look after their employees. There is reasonably strong evidence now showing a link between wellbeing and job performance, employee engagement and job satisfaction. If the company is aiming to improve those then using an evidence-based approach to enhance wellness is key.

What’s the role of technology in workplace wellness programs currently and where do you think it will be in the future?

Technology is becoming central to the provision of wellness. Employees now expect things to be automated, on-demand and user friendly. They expect the Netflix and Uber experience. Technology-backed wellbeing has to catch up to that standard. The future of wellbeing technology will be driven by artificial intelligence algorithms that scan large datasets of wellbeing and employee data to determine the best possible intervention needed for the employee at a particular time. That is: what works best, for who, when and where should it be delivered.
